Dazhui — Great Vertebra
In brief
This point is very effective for relieving common symptoms such as fever, cough, neck stiffness, hives, and acne. Massaging it regularly may also help reduce fatigue and support the body's defenses.
Where to find it
Hollow below the C7 spinous process (the most prominent one).
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
You can find this point by tilting your head slightly forward and feeling the bones of your spine. C7 is usually the easiest vertebra to feel at the base of the neck. Apply moderate pressure with your thumb or another finger. You should feel a gentle sense of pressure or numbness, but never sharp pain. Massage this point using small circular movements or alternating pressure and release for 1 to 2 minutes. Repeat this massage 2 to 3 times a day, especially when needed or when feeling tired.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.5-1 cun
The acupuncturist may stimulate this point via oblique needling at a depth of 0.5 to 1 cun. This procedure is reserved for qualified practitioners.
Moxibustion
This point may be warmed via moxibustion by a practitioner, except in cases of fever, where this technique is contraindicated.
Cupping
Cupping application on this point is a technique commonly used by practitioners to release tension and heat.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point disperses Wind (external pathogenic factors responsible for symptoms such as those of the flu), releases the Exterior (expels pathogenic factors from the body), clears Heat (reduces fever and inflammation), calms the Spirit (addresses fatigue and restlessness), and is a meeting point of all Yang (the body's warm, dynamic energy, particularly useful in cases of general weakness).
