Jiache — Jaw Chariot
In brief
Point E6, also called "Jaw Chariot", is a key point located on the face. It is often used to ease tension and pain in the jaw and teeth, as well as other facial discomfort.
Where to find it
One finger-width above and forward of the jaw angle, in the prominence of the jaw muscle when clenching the teeth
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
When you clench your teeth, you will feel a muscle bulge beneath your finger; this is the spot. Apply gradual pressure with your fingertip, without causing pain. You should feel gentle pressure, sometimes slight numbness or a feeling of heaviness, but never sharp pain. Maintain pressure for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, using small circular movements or pressing and releasing. You can repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day, or whenever you feel the need.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun perpendiculaire
The acupuncturist can insert a fine needle 0.3 to 0.5 cun deep, perpendicular to the skin, or direct it obliquely towards point E4. This procedure is performed by an experienced professional, adhering to aseptic precautions.
This is a major point for pain in the jaw and temporomandibular joint.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point is used to dispel Wind (ease certain sensations of stiffness or involuntary movement), benefit the jaw and teeth (relieve local pain and tension), and activate the meridian (improve the flow of energy along this pathway).
