Dicang — Earth Granary
In brief
This point is useful for easing tension and unpleasant sensations around the mouth and face. It may help with involuntary movements or difficulty controlling certain muscles in this area.
Where to find it
At the corner of the mouth, lateral.
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, apply gentle to moderate pressure with the tip of your index finger or thumb. The point is located just beside the corner of your mouth. Massage this point using small circular movements or steady pressure for one to two minutes. The sensation should be comfortable, perhaps with slight heaviness or local numbness, but never sharp pain. You can repeat this self-massage two to three times a day, or whenever you feel the need.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun
A practitioner may insert a fine needle to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun perpendicularly. It is also common to puncture this point obliquely, directing the needle toward the E6 (Jiache) point, located lower on the jaw. This procedure is performed exclusively by a qualified professional.
A needle-threading technique may be used to connect E4 to E6.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point is traditionally used to dispel Wind (an external disturbance that causes imbalances) from the face and to activate the Stomach meridian (energy channel).
