    Chize — Elbow Marsh

    In brief

This point is traditionally used to help with coughs, sore throats, or a sensation of heat in the lungs. It is a valuable ally when you experience uncomfortable respiratory symptoms.

    Where to find it

At the elbow crease, on the radial border of the biceps tendon

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, locate it at your elbow crease, on the thumb side, just lateral to the biceps brachii tendon. Apply moderate pressure with one or two fingers until you feel a mild sensation of pressure or numbness, without ever causing sharp pain. Hold this pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. You can repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day.

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.5-1 cun

The practitioner can needle this point perpendicularly, at a depth of 0.5 to 1 cun. This procedure must be performed by a qualified professional.

    Bloodletting

In some cases, the practitioner may consider a bloodletting technique to clear Lung Heat, always with strict precautions and in a professional setting.

This is a major point for dispersing Lung Heat and is particularly useful for coughs with yellow sputum or hemoptysis.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point helps clear Lung Heat (reduce excess heat in the lungs), descend rebellious Qi (vital energy) (calm abnormal movements of energy, such as coughing), and moisten the Lung (hydrate the lung tissues). It is a He point (gathering point) and a Sea point (a particularly influential point where energy accumulates).
