    Jianjing — Shoulder Well

    In brief

This point is useful for easing pain and tension in the shoulder and neck, including stiffness such as torticollis. It may also offer support for new mothers with insufficient milk supply or help ease a difficult labor.

    Where to find it

Midway between the C7 vertebra and the acromion, bony tip of the shoulder

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

Apply firm but painless pressure with your thumb or index finger. Use small circular movements or steady pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. The sensation should be mild pressure or numbness, never sharp pain. You can repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day.

    For practitioners

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.5-1 cun oblique

The acupuncturist will insert thin needles according to a precise depth and orientation. This technique is reserved for trained practitioners due to the sensitive anatomical structures nearby.

    Moxibustion

The practitioner may apply moxibustion (heat from burning mugwort) to this point. This method is used to warm and stimulate the area, always with precautions to avoid burns.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point helps dispel Wind (an external pathogenic energy) and benefits the shoulder and neck (promotes the circulation of energy and blood in these areas).

    Contraindications

This point is contraindicated during pregnancy, as it could potentially stimulate the uterus. Pregnant women should not use it for self-massage and should always inform their practitioner that they are pregnant.
