    Fengchi — Wind Pool

    In brief

VB20 is a key point located at the base of your skull, useful for easing headaches, neck pain, and even dizziness. It is often used for a feeling of heaviness in the head or tension in the back of the neck.

    Where to find it

Below the occiput, in the hollow between the trapezius and the SCM

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate VB20, place your thumbs in the hollows beneath your skull, on either side of the spine, where the neck muscles meet the head. Apply moderate but firm pressure that feels comfortable and is never painful. You should feel a slight sensation of numbness or relaxation. Massage using circular movements or sustained pressure for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. You can repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day, particularly when you feel tension.

    Depth : 0.5-1 cun oblique vers DM16

The acupuncturist can insert a fine needle at this point. Puncture is generally performed obliquely, with precautions taken to avoid deep structures. This delicate procedure is reserved for professional practice.

This point is one of the most commonly used in clinical practice for its effects on internal and external Wind.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point helps disperse Wind (ease symptoms that come and go quickly, such as certain headaches or stiffness), benefits the head and eyes (improves comfort and clarity in these areas), and relaxes the tendons (releases muscular and ligamentous tension). It is a major point for Wind (primarily addressing imbalances associated with Wind energy).
