    In brief

The Gate of Origin point is a major acupressure point often used to restore energy and vitality. It may be beneficial for significant fatigue, menstrual cycle concerns, or supporting reproductive health.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, apply gentle to moderate pressure with one or two fingers (the middle and index fingers, for example). Massage using small circular movements or by maintaining steady pressure. Stimulation should feel comfortable and may produce a sensation of warmth or slight numbness, but never sharp pain. Massage for 1 to 2 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day.

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.5-1.5 cun

Acupuncture at this point involves the insertion of a needle to a depth of 0.5 to 1.5 cun, perpendicularly. This procedure is reserved for a trained practitioner aware of the necessary precautions, particularly avoiding the area if the bladder is full.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion at the Gate of Origin point is very often used to reinforce its tonifying action. It consists of heating the point using a glowing mugwort stick, at a safe distance from the skin, to provide a sensation of gentle warmth. This protocol falls under the practice of a qualified professional.

This is a major point for general tonification and longevity, often favored for moxibustion.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point tonifies Yuan Qi (the body's original, deep-rooted energy), tonifies the Kidney (the organ associated with vitality and reproduction), regulates menstruation (the menstrual cycle), benefits the uterus (the female reproductive organ), and is a Mu point of the Small Intestine (an alarm point associated with proper small intestine function). It acts broadly on original Qi (the body's fundamental energy).

    Contraindications

It is recommended to avoid stimulating this point if your bladder is full. If in doubt, consult a healthcare professional.
