Biguan — Thigh Market
In brief
This point may help ease discomfort or pain in the legs and thighs. It is also often used for stiffness or weakness felt in this area of the body.
Where to find it
Anterolateral aspect of the thigh, level with the groin crease, in the depression lateral to the sartorius.
Indications
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, apply firm but comfortable pressure with your thumb or fingers. Use steady pressure or small circular movements for 1 to 2 minutes. The sensation should be mild pressure or numbness, never sharp pain. You can repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day, especially when discomfort arises.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 1-2 cun
The acupuncturist will insert a thin needle perpendicularly to a depth of 1 to 2 'cun' (a unit of measurement specific to Chinese medicine, adapted to the patient's morphology). This procedure must be performed exclusively by a qualified professional to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Moxibustion
The practitioner may apply moxibustion, a technique that involves heating the point using a small amount of burning mugwort, often for 10 to 20 minutes. This gentle heat is used to provide relief and stimulate the area, always with precautions to avoid any burns.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point is used to dispel Wind-Dampness (external pathogenic factors), promote the flow of Qi (vital energy) in the Stomach meridian (energy channel), and strengthen the lumbar region (the area of the kidneys and lower back). It is traditionally considered to open the meridians (energy channels) and relieve leg pain.
