Jugu — Great Bone
In brief
This point is useful for relieving shoulder and arm pain and may also help improve breathing comfort in cases of cough or mild asthma.
Where to find it
In the supraclavicular fossa, between the sternal and acromial ends of the clavicle.
Indications
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, located in the depression just above the clavicle, between its two ends (sternal and acromial), apply gentle to moderate pressure with your fingertip. Massage using circular movements or alternating pressure and release. Continue for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. You should feel gentle pressure; you should never feel sharp pain. You can repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day, or as needed.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.5-1 cun
The practitioner may insert a fine needle 0.5 to 1 cun deep, ensuring a perpendicular orientation. This technique is reserved for trained professionals to avoid any risk of lung puncture.
This point, although deep, is superficial and close to the lung, so particular care is needed during stimulation.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
Promotes the flow of Qi (vital energy) in the shoulder area, thereby relieving pain. It also regulates Lung Qi (vital energy of the respiratory system) and opens the thorax (chest), which may improve breathing.
Contraindications
This point is generally considered safe.
