Suliao — White of the Nose
In brief
This point is located on the nose and is known for helping with nasal congestion, difficulty detecting smells, or nosebleeds. It may also be useful in certain emergency situations, particularly to support resuscitation.
Where to find it
Tip of the nose
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, apply gentle but firm pressure with your fingertip directly to the tip of your nose. You can massage in small circular movements or hold steady pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. The sensation should be tolerable, perhaps with slight tingling, but never intense pain. Repeat this 2 to 3 times a day, or more frequently as needed, for example to relieve nasal congestion.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun
The acupuncturist may insert a needle very thinly and obliquely downwards. This procedure must be performed with the utmost caution due to the sensitivity of the area and the proximity of the nasal cavities.
Moxibustion
The practitioner may apply gentle heat (moxibustion) near the point to tonify it. This is generally done with a moxa stick at a distance from the skin to avoid any burns.
This point is traditionally used for its rapid action on the nose and may be considered a resuscitation point.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
It disperses Wind (expels external pathogenic factors), which benefits the nose (clears the nasal passages and improves olfactory function).
