Shangguan — Angle of the mandible

    In brief

This point near the ear may help ease headaches, particularly on the sides of the head, as well as tooth pain in the upper jaw. It is also used for hearing-related discomfort such as ringing in the ears.

    Where to find it

In front of the ear, on the upper border of the zygomatic arch, in the notch above GB8

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, place your index or middle finger in front of the ear, just above the cheekbone (zygomatic arch). You should feel a slight depression. Apply moderate pressure—firm enough to feel a sensation without causing pain. Maintain this pressure for 1 to 2 minutes, using small circular movements or pressing and releasing. You can repeat this stimulation 2 to 3 times a day if needed.
