Tinghui — Meeting of Hearing
In brief
This point may be helpful for relieving tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in the ears), ear pain such as that associated with otitis, or toothache and jaw pain. It is particularly relevant for soothing the area around the ear.
Where to find it
In front of the intertragic notch, mouth open
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
Apply gentle to moderate pressure using a circular motion or by alternately pressing and releasing. Massage each side for 1 to 2 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day, or whenever needed. You should feel a mild pressure sensation, or even slight local numbness, but never sharp pain. If pain occurs, reduce the pressure or stop the massage.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun
The acupuncturist can stimulate this point with a perpendicular insertion to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun, while asking the patient to open their mouth slightly. This procedure is a professional practice and should not be attempted at home.
For optimal effectiveness, the patient should open their mouth during stimulation to target the area precisely.
