    Ermen — Ear Gate

    In brief

This point is known for helping to relieve various ear-related discomforts, such as tinnitus (ringing or buzzing), a feeling of fullness in the ear, or pain. It is particularly useful if you often experience ear discomfort.

    Where to find it

Forward of the tragus, in the depression at the back edge of the mandibular condyle, mouth open.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To find the point, place your finger just in front of the small, comma-shaped cartilage at the entrance to your ear (the tragus). Open your mouth: you will feel a small depression in this area, near the jaw. This is where the point is located. Apply moderate pressure, neither too firm nor too light, with your thumb or index finger. You should feel a mild sensation of pressure or numbness, but never sharp pain. Hold this pressure for one to two minutes, using small circular movements or steady pressure. Repeat this massage two to three times a day, or whenever you feel the need.

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun

Acupuncture at this point is generally performed with the mouth open, via perpendicular insertion. This procedure must be performed by a qualified practitioner.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion (application of heat with mugwort) at this point can be used to warm and stimulate the area, particularly for cold-related conditions. This technique is reserved for practitioners.

This point is considered a major point for ear conditions and is particularly useful for otitis and tinnitus.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point benefits the ears (relieves hearing-related problems), clears heat (reduces inflammation or excess heat), and calms the mind (soothes mental tension and restlessness).
