Shenque — Umbilical Connection
In brief
Point JM8, located at the center of the umbilicus, is a key point for easing digestive issues such as diarrhea and addressing intense fatigue. It is valued for its soothing and tonifying effects on the body.
Where to find it
Center of the belly button
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
Since this point is the umbilicus, direct acupressure is not recommended. However, you can gently stimulate the area around the umbilicus. Place your palms one on top of the other on your abdomen and make gentle clockwise circular movements, maintaining light, steady pressure. You should feel a pleasant warmth or slight relaxation. Massage this way for 2 to 3 minutes, 1 to 2 times a day. Stop if you feel any discomfort.
Other uses
Moxibustion
Indirect moxibustion (heat applied via a mugwort stick above the skin) is the preferred method for this point. It must be performed by a qualified practitioner, with salt or ginger placed on the navel to avoid direct contact and to provide strong tonification.
This point is traditionally stimulated only through indirect moxibustion, using materials such as salt or ginger as a barrier, for strong tonification.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
Regulates the Intestines (organs of digestion and assimilation) and promotes the circulation of Qi (vital energy) throughout the body.
Contraindications
Needling this point is strictly prohibited. If you have skin problems in the umbilical area or are pregnant, consult your doctor before any stimulation.
