Sanjiaoshu — Hearth of the Triple Burner

    In brief

Point V22 is useful for relieving bloating and certain urinary problems. It may also help with sensations of heaviness related to fluid in the body.

    Where to find it

lateral to the spinous process of L1

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, place your thumbs or fingers on either side of the spine, approximately at the level of the first lumbar vertebra (just below the floating ribs). Apply moderate pressure, enough to feel a mild sensation, but never sharp pain. Massage in small circles or apply steady pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. You can repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day, especially when experiencing heaviness or bloating.

    For practitioners

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.5-1 cun oblique

The acupuncturist may insert a needle obliquely to a depth of 0.5 to 1 cun. This procedure requires precise anatomical knowledge and is reserved for qualified practitioners.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion (the application of heat via an incandescent mugwort stick) is a technique the practitioner may use to stimulate this point and enhance its effects. It is applied at a distance from the skin by the professional.

This point is very important for regulating fluid metabolism in the body.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point regulates the Triple Burner (the collective functions involved in transforming and distributing fluids and energy throughout the body), helping to resolve dampness (excess fluid or sensations of heaviness) and regulate the Water Pathways (the circulation and elimination of body fluids).
