Dushu — Hearth of the Governing Minister

    In brief

This point is useful for easing tension and discomfort in the back, particularly around the shoulder blades and spine. It may help promote a sense of relaxation and ease of movement in this area.

    Where to find it

A outward from the bottom edge of the spinous process of the 6th thoracic vertebra (T6).

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, you can use your thumb or a rounded object (such as a tennis ball). Apply gentle to moderate pressure to the point, located about two finger-widths on either side of the spine, just below the 6th thoracic vertebra (at the level of the inferior angle of the scapula). Massage in circular motions or apply firm, steady pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. The sensation should be comfortable, perhaps slightly heavy or numb, but never painful. You can practice this self-massage 1 to 2 times a day, or whenever needed, taking care not to apply excessive pressure directly to the spine.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point acts to regulate the Du Mai (a central energy vessel that governs the body's Yang) and promote the circulation of Qi (vital energy) in the back. It is also considered the back-Shu (association) point of the Du Mai (Du vessel).
