    Tianyou — Heavenly Window

    In brief

Point TR16, called Heavenly Window, is located on the side of your neck. Massaging this point may help relieve headaches, dizziness and stiffness at the back of the neck.

    Where to find it

Back side of the neck, below the mastoid, at the back edge of the SCM muscle.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, apply gentle to moderate pressure with your fingertip. You should feel slight pressure or numbness, but never sharp pain. Maintain this pressure for 1 to 2 minutes, using small circular movements or pressing firmly. You can repeat this stimulation 2 to 3 times a day, or whenever you feel the need.

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun

Acupuncture at this point involves perpendicular needling. This delicate procedure is performed by a practitioner at a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun, requiring precise anatomical knowledge to avoid any nervous or vascular structures.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves heating the point using mugwort. The practitioner uses this technique by directing heat toward the point for approximately 5 to 10 minutes to enhance its effects, while always ensuring patient safety.

This point is traditionally used to disperse external factors and support the sensory functions of the head, particularly hearing.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point benefits the ears (supports good hearing and reduces ear, nose and throat problems), disperses Wind (dispels disruptive external energies) and belongs to the Window of Heaven points (influences communication between the head and the body, particularly in relation to sensory and neck disorders).
