Xiongxiang — Rib of the Chest
In brief
This point is useful for easing pain or a feeling of tightness in the chest. It may also help calm vomiting, offering overall comfort.
Where to find it
farther from the torso than midline of the body, in the 3rd space between ribs.
Indications
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, apply firm but non-painful pressure with your fingertip. Use circular movements or sustained pressure for about 1 to 2 minutes. The sensation should be one of gentle pressure or numbness, never sharp pain. You can repeat this 2 to 3 times a day, particularly when you feel discomfort.
Other uses
Moxibustion
Moxibustion, which involves heating the point with mugwort, can be applied for 5 to 10 minutes. This gentle technique is generally performed by a practitioner to stimulate the point safely.
This point is known for its opening action in the thorax and helps regulate the flow of energy.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point helps harmonize Qi (vital energy) and is particularly effective at opening the thorax (releasing tightness in the chest) to support the flow of energy and ease sensations of fullness.
