    Fuai — Abdominal Pain

    In brief

This point is useful for easing abdominal pain, particularly stomach-related pain, as well as indigestion, nausea, or vomiting. It is often used for upper digestive discomfort.

    Where to find it

farther from the torso than midline of the body, above belly button.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, locate it by placing your index finger approximately four thumb-widths lateral to the midline of your abdomen, at a level three thumb-widths above the umbilicus. Apply gentle to moderate pressure with your fingertip. You should feel a mild sensation of pressure or numbness. Hold this pressure for one to two minutes, making small circular movements if you wish. Repeat this self-massage two to three times a day, or as needed. Never press hard enough to cause sharp pain.

    For practitioners

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.8-1.2 cun

Needling at this point is performed by a trained practitioner, perpendicular to the skin, at a depth ranging from 0.8 to 1.2 cun (approximately 1.5 to 2.5 cm).

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion can be applied to this point by a practitioner, generally for 10 to 15 minutes, to provide warmth and reinforce the therapeutic action.

Although this point is not the traditional Mu point of the Stomach (which is VC12), it is listed as the 'Mu point of the Stomach' and has a regulating action on the Stomach and its function of directing Qi downward.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point works by regulating the Stomach (the digestive organ) and helping Qi (vital energy) descend, which is essential for proper digestion and for preventing regurgitation and vomiting.
