    Shuiquan — Water Spring

    In brief

This point is useful for easing menstrual discomfort, such as pain or irregular cycles, as well as difficulty urinating. It may also offer support in cases of uterine prolapse.

    Where to find it

Inner side of the foot, below Rn3, in the hollow forward of the calcaneus.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, apply firm pressure with your thumb or a finger to the medial side of your foot. It is located approximately one thumb-width below the prominence of the medial malleolus, in a small depression in front of the heel. Maintain pressure for 1 to 2 minutes, using small circular movements or alternately pressing and releasing. You should feel a mild sensation of pressure or slight numbness, but never sharp pain. Repeat 2 to 3 times a day.

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun

The acupuncturist can insert a needle to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun, perpendicular to the skin. This technique, performed by a qualified professional, aims for precise and deep stimulation of the point.

As a Xi point (an emergency or accumulation point), it is often used for acute conditions, particularly gynecological conditions, and urinary problems.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point nourishes Yin (the energy that provides coolness, moisture and substance to the body), benefits menstruation (regulates the menstrual cycle and eases menstrual disturbances) and is a Xi-Cleft point of the Yin Qiao Mai (an emergency point or a gathering point for the energy of the vessels that regulate Yin and female functions).
