Shufu — Shu Residence
In brief
This point is useful for easing coughs and asthma, as well as soothing chest pain and vomiting. It may help restore calmer breathing and digestive comfort.
Where to find it
lateral to CV21, below the collarbone.
Indications
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, locate it just below the inferior border of your clavicle, about two thumb-widths from your sternum. Apply gentle to moderate pressure with your fingertip. You should feel a mild pressure sensation, without sharp pain. Maintain this pressure for one to two minutes, using small circular movements or alternating between pressing and releasing. You can repeat this stimulation two to three times a day, particularly when you feel the need for relief. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to consult a healthcare professional.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun
The acupuncturist can needle this point obliquely, at a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun. This procedure requires great precision and must be performed by a qualified professional due to the proximity of vital organs.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion, which consists of heating the point with mugwort, can be applied to this point, generally with 3 to 5 cones. This technique is reserved for practitioners and must be performed with caution to avoid any risk of burns.
This point is superficial and is the last point on the Kidney meridian. It is known for regulating Lung Qi (energy).
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point benefits the throat, directs rebellious Qi downward (energy that rises in a disordered way and causes, for example, coughing or vomiting), and dispels phlegm (helps clear secretions).
Contraindications
Particular care must be taken when manipulating this point because of its proximity to the lungs, to avoid any risk of pneumothorax. Only a trained practitioner is qualified to perform invasive techniques in this area.
