Yingu — Yin Valley
In brief
This acupressure point is useful for relieving knee pain, particularly on the medial side. It may also support overall well-being in cases of pelvic discomfort.
Where to find it
Medial side of the knee, between the semitendinous and semimembranous tendons, at the level of the knee crease.
Indications
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, locate it on the medial side of your knee, at the crease, between the two main tendons you can feel. Apply moderate pressure with your thumb or a finger, without ever causing sharp pain. You should feel a sensation of pressure, sometimes with slight numbness. Hold this pressure for one to two minutes. Repeat this self-massage two to three times a day, particularly if you feel discomfort.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0.5-1 cun
Acupuncture at this point involves perpendicular needle insertion. This procedure must be performed by a qualified practitioner, using appropriate depth and all necessary hygiene precautions.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion consists of applying heat using a moxa. At this point, it is generally performed for 10 to 20 minutes by a practitioner to reinforce its action, taking care never to burn the skin.
This point is traditionally known for tonifying foundational energy (Kidney) and regulating body fluids.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point, “Yin Valley” (Yingu), is a He-Sea point (a point where Qi, vital energy, gathers and a point of confluence) and a Water point. It tonifies the Kidney (the body's foundational energy), resolves Dampness (helps eliminate excess pathogenic fluids), and regulates the Water Passages (harmonizes the circulation of body fluids).
