    Jiquan — Supreme Spring

    In brief

This point may help soothe discomfort in the chest and thorax. Traditionally used to promote a sense of relaxation in this area.

    Where to find it

In the center of the armpit, on the medial edge of the axillary artery (raise the arm vertically to reach it).

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

Using the pad of your thumb or index finger, apply light, gentle pressure. You should feel slight tension or mild discomfort, but never sharp pain. Hold this pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. Repeat 1 to 2 times a day, always paying attention to how you feel.

    Additional notes

⚠️ Avoid the axillary artery! Rarely used. Clears Heart heat.

    For practitioners

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun

The acupuncturist will insert fine needles to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun perpendicularly, taking extreme precautions to avoid the axillary artery.

Although powerful, this point is rarely used in clinical practice and requires great precision to avoid the axillary artery.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

Regulates Heart Qi (vital energy; the Heart is the organ associated with circulation and emotions). Opens the chest (supports breathing and circulation in the thorax). Calms the mind (promotes mental tranquility).

    Contraindications

Use caution when stimulating this point because a major artery (the axillary artery) lies directly beneath it. Do not apply excessive or deep pressure. Avoid if you have known heart or circulatory problems!
