    Luozhen — Stiff Neck (torticollis)

    In brief

The Stiff Neck point, also called Luozhen, is a valuable point for quickly easing restricted movement and neck pain, such as after sleeping in an awkward position. It may help restore greater flexibility and comfort when moving the head and neck.

    Where to find it

Back of the hand, proximal to the 2nd-3rd MCP joint

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate the Stiff Neck point (Luozhen), locate it on the back of your hand, about half an inch (equivalent to the width of your thumb) proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joints of your ring and middle fingers. Apply firm but comfortable pressure with the thumb or index finger of your other hand. Massage gently using circular movements or direct pressure for one to two minutes. You should feel deep pressure, sometimes with slight numbness, but never sharp pain. Repeat this stimulation two to three times a day, particularly when you feel stiffness in your neck.

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.5-0.8 cun perpendiculaire

The acupuncturist can insert a fine needle at this point to act more deeply. This procedure, which involves piercing the skin, must be performed by a qualified practitioner.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point works by relaxing the neck muscles (releasing local tension) and easing stiffness (helping restore joint flexibility).
