Zhoujian — Tip of the elbow

    In brief

This point on the elbow is traditionally used to help the skin clear and manage certain types of localized inflammation. It may be useful as a complementary approach to easing discomfort associated with small pimples or boils.

    Where to find it

    Point of the elbow

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

Apply gentle to moderate pressure with your thumb or index finger. Use small circular movements or steady pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. The sensation should be comfortable; slight numbness is normal, but there should never be sharp pain. You can practice this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day.

    For practitioners

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.1-0.2 cun

A fine needle insertion can be performed by a qualified practitioner, with a depth of 0.1 to 0.2 cun, taking care to avoid insertion that is too deep for the patient's safety.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion (the application of heat through burning mugwort) is the method primarily recommended for this point by the practitioner. It must be performed by a trained professional to avoid any risk of burns.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point's energetic actions are to disperse Heat (excess internal heat often manifesting as inflammation) and resolve toxins (eliminate pathogenic substances or blockages).

    Contraindications

Avoid deep needling at this point. If you have circulatory problems, acute skin conditions in the area, or are pregnant, please consult a healthcare professional before any stimulation.
