    Shangming — Brightness

    In brief

This point is traditionally used to support eye health and help with certain eye conditions such as myopia, optic atrophy, retinitis, cataracts, or glaucoma. It is a valuable ally for those wishing to care for their vision.

    Where to find it

Just above the pupil, between the upper rim of the eye socket and the eyeball.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, locate it directly above your pupil, between the superior orbital rim and the eyeball. Apply gentle to moderate pressure with a fingertip, taking care never to press on the eyeball itself. You should feel a slight sensation of numbness or pressure, but never pain. Hold this pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. Repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day. If you feel any pain, even mild pain, stop applying pressure immediately.

    For practitioners

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0,5 à 1 cun

The practitioner may puncture this point perpendicularly into the fatty tissue above the bone, while gently pushing the eyeball downward. Special attention must be paid not to manipulate the needle after insertion. After removal, firm pressure is applied for 10 minutes to prevent any risk of hematoma.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion is contraindicated at this point due to its delicate location and associated risks.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point is traditionally used to address ocular conditions (eye problems).

    Contraindications

Avoid moxibustion (the application of heat using a mugwort stick) at this point. There is a risk of hematoma. Be very cautious and stop stimulation if you feel any pain, even mild pain. For any questions or persistent symptoms, consult a healthcare professional.
