Qiuhou — Behind the Eyeball
In brief
This point is traditionally used to support eye health. It may be helpful for soothing visual discomfort or as a complement to care for eye conditions.
Where to find it
At the lower border of the orbit, at the junction of the lateral fourth and the medial three-fourths of the lower border of the orbit.
How to stimulate it (acupressure)
To stimulate this point, apply gentle but firm pressure with the tip of your index or middle finger. The point is located just below the inferior orbital rim, at its lateral quarter. You should feel light pressure without pain. Hold this pressure for 1 to 2 minutes. Repeat this stimulation 1 to 2 times a day, particularly if you experience eye discomfort. Avoid any direct pressure on the eye itself and stop if you feel sharp pain.
Other uses
Acupuncture
Depth : 0,5 à 1 cun
This point may be needled by a qualified practitioner, using perpendicular insertion into the fatty tissue above the bone, taking care to push the eyeball upward. It is crucial to avoid the eyeball, the periosteum, the venous plexus, and the arteries. The practitioner must not manipulate the needle after insertion and should apply firm pressure with a cotton swab for 10 minutes after removal to prevent hematomas.
Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)
This point's primary traditional use is to address eye conditions (ocular disorders).
Contraindications
This point must not be stimulated with moxibustion (heat). It is also important to avoid injuring the eyeball or the sensitive tissues around the eye.
