Dingchuan — Calming Shortness of Breath

    In brief

This point is known for helping to ease respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and coughing. It may also offer some comfort for pain in the back of the neck and back, or even for hives.

    Where to find it

    lateral to Dazhui (VG14)

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, locate the seventh cervical vertebra (the most prominent bump at the base of the neck), then move your fingers half an inch (approximately 1.5 cm) to either side. Apply moderate pressure with your fingertip or thumb. You should feel a slight sensation of numbness or pressure, never sharp pain. Maintain this pressure for one to two minutes. It is recommended to repeat this self-massage two to three times a day, particularly when symptoms occur.
