Huagai — Flourishing of the Middle

    In brief

This point is useful for easing respiratory discomfort, such as coughing and asthma, as well as throat irritation. It may also help soothe pain felt in the chest.

    Where to find it

On breastbone, level of 1st intercostal space

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, located on the sternum just above the first intercostal space, apply gentle to moderate pressure with your fingertip. Massage using small circular movements or steady pressure. Maintain the pressure for one to two minutes, noticing a slight sensation of warmth or relief. Repeat this stimulation two to three times a day. The pressure should never be painful; if it is, reduce the intensity.
