    In brief

This point is useful for soothing various types of discomfort related to the chest and breathing. It is used particularly for coughing, a feeling of tightness or pain in the chest, and sometimes even to ease vomiting.

    Where to find it

On breastbone, level of 2nd intercostal space

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

Apply gentle to moderate pressure with a finger, such as your thumb or index finger. Maintain this pressure for 1 to 2 minutes while breathing calmly. You should feel a mild sensation of pressure or relaxation, but never sharp pain. Repeat this self-massage 2 to 3 times a day if needed.

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0.3-0.5 cun

The acupuncturist can stimulate this point with an oblique or subcutaneous puncture to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun. This procedure is strictly reserved for qualified practitioners.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion, which involves heating the point using a mugwort stick, can also be applied by a practitioner to reinforce its action. This requires expertise to avoid any risk of burns.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point works by regulating Lung Qi (vital energy) and directing rebellious Qi downward (energy that rises against its normal flow, causing coughing or vomiting).
