    Anmian — Peaceful sleep

    In brief

The Anmian point, which means “peaceful sleep,” is a key area for supporting quality rest. It is particularly useful if you have difficulty falling asleep, experience restless sleep, or feel anxious, dizzy, or have headaches.

    Where to find it

Behind the ear, between TR-17 and GB-20, posterior to the mastoid process. Midway between these two points, slightly posterior to the mastoid bone, at the lower border of the occiput.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate Anmian, find the area just behind the ear, halfway between the earlobe and the back of the head, slightly below the occipital bone. Apply moderate pressure with your fingertip, firm but without causing sharp pain. Use small circular movements or steady pressure for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. You should feel a slight sense of relaxation or numbness.

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0,5 à 1 cun

The insertion of fine needles at this point is a common practice in acupuncture. It is performed by a qualified practitioner, with a depth generally ranging from 0.5 to 1 cun, perpendicularly or obliquely towards TE-17 or GB-20, depending on the therapeutic goal.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This extra point is traditionally known for Calming the Mind (shen, meaning the full range of mental and emotional functions).
