    Haiquan — Sea Spring

    In brief

This point, located beneath the tongue, is traditionally used to soothe irritation and small sores in the mouth, such as canker sores or inflammation of the tongue. It may also be used for persistent hiccups.

    Where to find it

Under the tongue, at the center of the frenulum, between Jinjin and Yuye.

    How to stimulate it (acupressure)

To stimulate this point, use a very gentle touch. Wash your hands thoroughly. Using your index finger or thumb, apply very light pressure just beneath the middle of your tongue, where the small fold of tissue (lingual frenulum) is located. Keep the pressure minimal, just enough to feel the point without causing discomfort. Hold this light pressure for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until you feel some relief. Repeat 2 to 3 times a day if needed. Never force or vigorously massage this very sensitive area. If hiccups persist or mouth sores do not improve, consult a healthcare professional.

    For practitioners

    Other uses

    Acupuncture

    Depth : 0,2 cun

Acupuncture at this point is performed by needling perpendicularly to a depth of 0.2 cun. The needle should be withdrawn immediately after a brief tonification. This technique is very delicate and must be performed by a qualified practitioner, as the area is sensitive and the puncture can be painful.

Effects in traditional Chinese energetics (TCM)

This point is used to address oral ulcers (mouth sores) and lingual ulcers (tongue sores).
